I attended West Campus had gym classes at James Field in the 70's. It's been a wonderful place for children to play and hold team practices for a long time. We need to keep this historic community landmark and develop it for continued use by children of all ages.

As a life long resident of Pekin I have seen a lot of changes, some for the good and some questionable. James Field is in the hearts of all who have lived here and went to school back in the day of the PEKIN CHINKS.

I attended PCHS and spent many hours during my high school gym classes on James Field. It is centrally located in Pekin, and the field provides a wonderful enclosed area for the children of Pekin to practice several sports. I would love to see that city block improved for the children of Pekin!

James Field is nearly in the center of old Pekin and there are no other parks in this area of town. It's long been neglected and needs to have the proposed improvements to continue to serve the children and adults living in the area. Let's get behind "Saving James Field"!

I am a native Pekinite, having been born and raised here.I love having a spot of green in downtown Pekin, where kids can play ball, fly kites, or do whatever. I hope this project will keep it a green space just as it is forever, just as the original donors wanted.

We live in Minnesota. James Field and the old high school are about the only recognizable landmarks left. They bring back fond memories. Why not make a "field of dreams" for the children. There is plenty of room downtown (a ghost town) for commerical development. Thanks to the committee and General Mills.

to save james field from crass commercialization, and keep it dedicated to children "forever",as the donor dictated, is the only HONORABLE thing to do

I'm from the Chicago area where it's not often that a green space(park)is on a main street in a town, especially near a downtown. That is what is so great about Pekin. We have a wonderful park area downtown for all to enjoy. Please help keep it and all the wonderful events and activities it supports. I can only imagine all the memories that field holds for the Pekinites that grew up here.

I am not a native Pekinite, having been born and raised in the Chicago area, but I have lived in Pekin since 1994. I love having a spot of green in downtown Pekin, where kids can lie on the grass and fly kites and generally just enjoy themselves. I hope it stays just as it is forever, just as the original donors wanted.

We have dreams of a walking path, benches, fountains, and landscaping with trees – an area for all ages to enjoy. We have all come to where we are in life through the work and the gifts of others. James Field was a gift to us 91 years ago and what good memories it has given. This is an opportunity to pass on a living green space in our city for those who will live here after us.

We have lived across the street from James Field since May of 1995. During this time we have seen most of the homecoming and Christmas parades assemble on and around James Field.. The highlight was when the Budweiser Clydesdales were harnessed and hitched to the wagon right beside our house. To let this green space be commercially developed would be a tragedy. Please help keep it green.

The many P.E. classes at James Field come back to me with fond memories. I remember taking a photo of a buddy who was mooning the camera and then he got suspended on the last day of school. He couldn't make the trek from West Campus to East Campus when they became 1 unified Campus in the spring of 1998. That was one of the most memorable stories from high school.

I grew up across the street from James Field. I remember seeing it from my bedroom window every morning when I woke up. (I block out the memories of having to run the mile for gym there :)). My son's soccer team used it last fall. If James field isn't saved, what piece of green will our city sell next, part of Coal Miner's park? We need more green, not more concrete! Growing up, James field hasn't been very memorable to me. However James field seems to be a very important place to a lot of people I care for. I cannot turn down the opportunity to help raise "free money" for the renovation of the field. I look forward to the renovation in hopes that I can appreciate James field as much as my Grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles have.

James Field is an Icon for our community that everyone has some connection to. The mere fact that there is a Monumental stone
Placed on its corner with the family's name that dedicated the property, saying it is to be "forever" used for a playing field is enough for me."Forever" means "FOREVER"!! Please Help Save James Field!

Today is St. Patrick's day, so "saving the green" is paramount. Don't turn this into another piece of "blacktop jungle." I remember many a fun gym class there. As our community grows there becomes less green space. This is in the center of an older residential neighborhood. Thank you for the opportunity to demonstrate support for James Field. I first enjoyed James Field through my cub scout baseball games there in the early 1980's. This park is one of the reasons Pekin is such a great place to live and grow up in.

Please help us save the field, and thanks again!

James Field, as we know it,is such an important part of the Pekin community. Cub Scout softball games have been played there for decades. Dads & granddads have taught kite flying there, many "pick-up" sofball games have been played there...I could go on and on.
Please help us keep this wonderful, useful, nostalgic place for these activities for future generations. THANK YOU!!!

Please save James Field! It is a wonderful green area for families to enjoy the outdoors, fly a kite, or get a little exercise. I grew up in Pekin and went to PCHS. While I didn't live close enough to James Field to play there as a child, I have fond memories tied to James Field. Please help restore this space for future generations.

Although I wasn't a PCHS student and didn't grow up in Pekin, I know many that did. This is a perfect example of causes that MyHomeTownHelper was created for... and regardless of your good or bad experiences with this field, the overall goal- to preserve a greenspace in the center of a community -is a noble and just cause that everyone should stand behind. Thanks Gen. Mills for the opportunity.

James Field was left to the community to use for the play area for our children. I feel that keeping the field for that purpose should stay a reality for the future generations. We need to keep these open areas so our kids have a safe place to play and while doing so they are staying out of trouble. Lord knows that we need that. Thank you for looking at this project

How ironic to realize that in both my current "hometown" and my former "hometown" of Pekin residents are fighting to stave off development and save green space. I feel strongly that green space should stay green, especially a place that has for so long been a community hub as James Field has. Please help restore James Field for all Pekinites, past, present and future.

it is rare for a community to have a large open area so near the center of town. This green space could never be replaced if it is allowed to vanish. Future generations will be blessed by its preservation.

Please help to save a wonderful place in our town. Iwould hate to think that our future children will not have a special place in the heart of Pekin. I believe that we need to keep this as it was originally intended to be.

I live in Lafayette, Indiana where we have a very strong preservation association. It's important to hold on to those places that have a long history in the community. James Field could be a beautiful place for generations to come. Unfortunately, my memories of James Field revolve around gym class and the ugly blue gym suits!!

Thank you for offering a money grant to help small communities like Pekin, Illinois. Losing James Field as a green space in the center of town would be only part of the wound to our community. James Field is an important part of the soul of Pekin - and, as such, part of the soul of each of us who ever grew up in, lives in, and has memories of Pekin.

James Field is part of our history. With the proper amount of funding, we can make this field into a wonderful play area for children and generations to come. James Field has served the community by being the staging area for downtown parades and baseball games, Easter egg hunts and many other free activities for families. Money is needed to improve the grounds with landscraping and walkways.

James Field is part of our community history. Maintaining this green space in the center of our town is not only important for our memories of the past; it is a practical way to ensure the site remains available for public use, not commercial entity. Help us keep this gathering place for our town, all of its children, adults, families, seniors.

I grew up a half block from James Field. It gave the kids of our neighborhood a baseball field, soccer field, football field, gladiatorial arena, and canvas for massive snowmen. I grew up on that field with my friends. I can't imagine my childhood without it. It's worth saving for the next generation of kids with imaginations and lots of extra energy.

James Field is valuable for its history and for its future in lives of children and adults. Cub Scouts, high school students, families and friends have played baseball; all ages run or walk the track. Kites fly and hot air balloons have lifted off. Parades start and recycling is promoted. Soccer balls and footballs get kicked. It's the backyard playground for an entire community.

Some of us have been around long enough to remember "shirts" and "skins" games in P.E. classes held on the old James Field. Others will build their memories on the new, improved James Field. It's truly one of Pekin's treasures and so important to keep as open space for all to enjoy. I hope General Mills rewards Pekin's dedicated volunteers with a little extra "Help."

As someone who grew up in Pekin and spent much of my youth playing at James Field, I support this project 100%. Through the tireless efforts of the Save James Field Committee, this historic playground has been given a stay of excavation. However, it remains in the path of the bulldozers until adequate funds are raised to complete the necessary improvements. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Our James Field has the opportunity once again to be a wonderful site for our city. Centrally located it should be developed to reflect our fine city. Presently it is a bare square of land...sadly it takes funds to turn this land into a proud site. Something like the grant would help Pekin out tremendously.

Some 60 plus classmates have communicated for years about our hometown, Pekin. To most of us James Field is a town center...A part of what we are. For my part I was in gym class there; led the Pekin High Marching Band as Drum Major from James Field downtown during parades; and generally found it a town center. Please help us as we attempt to maintain and hold this bit of Americana!

Thank You!

Without this restoration, commercial pressures could eventually deprive future generations of the educational and recreational opportunities offerd by James Field.
